RECRUITMENT OF ACADEMIC STAFF
UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY MALAYSIA (UTM)
UTM is looking for young and dynamic applicants with PhD degree who are prolific in research and publication to fill tenure-track positions at the rank of lecturers, associate or full professors. Application is open to all interested applicants from any nationality across the globe.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are selected based on academic credentials, experience and other relevant traits. UTM looks forward to hiring candidates who have strong interest to engage in cutting-edge research and able to extract research grants from various funding bodies for purposes of research development. Candidates who are highly dedicated to high-impact publications as well as citation-driven, and committed to teaching excellence would be an asset to UTM. In addition, effective communication in English and excellent teamwork as well as networking skills are essential.
PROFILE OF UTM
UTM is Malaysia’s premier university in Engineering, Science and Technology and still remains significant as the main provider of professional and skilled technical workforce for the country as well as multinational organizations. It is strategically located at the southern tip of Malaysia’s vibrant economic corridor, Iskandar Malaysia. The main campus is located in Johor Bahru, the southern-most city of Malaysia, while the UTM International Campus is in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. At present, the university has a student population of more than 22,000 with more than 7000 postgraduate students. The number of international students is increasing by the day with the university aspiring to increase the total number of international postgraduate research students up to 50% next year. The number of foreign academic staff currently stands at 200. This is in line with the university’s internationalization effort to be more competitive in an increasingly global environment.
The university’s vision is to be recognized as a world-class centre of academic and technological excellence with the mission to lead in the development of human capital and innovative technologies in tandem with Malaysia’s aspiration to become an innovation-led nation and a reputable international educational hub in the region. It is also the highest ranked university in Malaysia in the Webometric World University Ranking.

The successful candidate will be placed either at the Faculties for the Teaching Track position (70% Teaching and 30% Research) or will be attached to the Research Alliance for those opting for the Research Track position (70% Research and 30% Teaching). PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO CHOOSE THE RESEARCH TRACK POSITION. Interested candidates for the Research Track are encouraged to contact the Executive Director of the respective Research Alliances for further queries of research interests.
